IntelliStick’s Unique Technology
IntelliStick’s unique Sensor Technology was developed by Professor Robert Kauffman, an industry-known distinguished oil chemist at the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI). Kauffman was contacted by the U.S. military to develop a sensor for use in the Joint Strike Fighter Jet and Humvee. The intelligence behind IntelliStick
To provide continuous, real-world monitoring, the IntelliStick uses a simple, patented conductivity test that applies low voltage with slow varying waveforms across two sensor arrays. The system measures changes in the electrochemical current flow caused by additive package depletion and impurities that accumulate over time in engine oil. As more additives are depleted, most notably antioxidants and detergents, the oil’s conductivity is compromised, which leads to a corresponding reduction in the IntelliStick sensor reading.

Environmental Benefits:
Depleted oil causes your vehicle to experience a drop in performance, inefficient fuel economy, and reduces reliability of engine life. IntelliStick reads your oil and reports the condition. IntelliStick shows that once the additive package in the oil has depleted, the oil has very little remaining useful life. What does that mean to you? That means that you now have the ability to determine, almost exactly, when it is time to change your oil or add an oil additive. Preventive maintenance is now based on realtime information.

In order to simplify this phenomenon in graphical terms, Kauffman used U.S. military tests on thousands of hours with Humvee® engines to develop the “Kauffman Curve”. This curve, displayed to the user through a Windowsbased PDA, Smart Phone, or Laptop, indicates the remaining useful life of the engine oil. As the oil condition depletes, the IntelliStick readings begin to decline and eventually will stabilize in a flat line, which indicates that the oil is ready for change. The oil has reached its “Critical Point” when it no longer has the ability to lubricate properly. As the antioxidants deplete, the IntelliStick will detect a sharp increase of viscosity and acid number before the critical point. If the oil has passed the critical point the Kauffman Curve will begin to rise. In this case, the conductance reading increases, indicating that oil oxidation is occurring. The oil change should take place anytime when the Kauffman Curve reading is “flat”, which is after the loss of additives and before oil oxidation.
